THE PRACTICE
Pippa Nissen Studio was established in 2010 when the founding partners of award winning architecture practice Nissen Adams decided to form two new practices to allow each partner to focus on their particular interests and areas of expertise.

Pippa is an architect and a theatre designer; professions that involve creating spaces and environments that support and enhance the life within them. Her work on theatre sets and films has influenced and enriched her architectural work and vice versa, often by using theatre work as a test bed of ideas and techniques for the larger projects. She has used film more and more in her work in the theatre and exhibitions, as well as for concerts and installations. And lighting has become an important component of the work, first in the theatre but increasingly also in architecture, in sculpting and transforming space. A specialist company, Studio ZNA, headed by lighting designer Zerlina Hughes was formed in 2006 and shares the office.

In Pippa Nissen Studio, the skills are brought together so that the boundaries between disciplines are reduced and interaction between them is encouraged. Our main work is on architecture and on designs for exhibitions and the theatre.
