WHEELER HOUSE
A new house sited next to an existing Grade II listed building.
This sensitive site faces directly North-South and exploits the orientation to make full use of passive stack ventilation and seasonal solar gain. Photovoltaic cell cladding provides a covered terrace space and shades more sensitive living spaces.
The proposal is for a modern building, that uses a changing skin wrapped around a form suggested by the local vernacular, to blend traditional materials and innovative technology. The design team was determined to innovate while respecting the local material and historical context.
This project is due to start on site late summer 2010.
